Dr. Karnawat having his roots in the suncity of Rajasthan had a simple upbringing and environment focused towards education, with the father being an educator and the mother a homemaker. The value based childhood and orientation towards academics gave an impetus to working towards the goal of achieving success in desired field.
Dr. Rakesh Karnawat working as an Additional Principal in Rajasthan’s one of the most prestigious and pioneering medical institution Dr. S N Medical College is very proud of his association with the institution which began way back in 1985 as a student. He reminiscing, his years as a student feels the foundation built on managing the rigorous schedules, understanding the needs of the patients to give them the desired care and having the satisfaction of their recovery is the same till date, no reward can replace this gratification. This belief in the noble profession of medical has chartered his growth from the student of MBBS who went on to do his PG in anaesthesia in the year 1997, to become Assistant Professor in 1998 and Associate in the year 2009, this paved a way for journey of consistent growth that led him to become Additional Principal in the same institution in 2020. He also has the privilege of being appointed as external examiner for PG Examinations by Saurashtra, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi University etc.
The academic inclination is just not restricted to teaching but also being an integral part of educational echelons as being Editor in Chief of Indian Journal of Clinical Anaesthesia from 1994-97, Member of World Academy of Scientific and Technical Committee and Editorial on Medicine and Health Sciences-USA, Associate Editor of Indian Journal of Anaesthesia and Analgesia, he also has 21 national and international paper publications to his credit. Besides this he has also been felicitated by Times Marwar Healthcare Achievers Award 2015 by Times of India, Veer Durgadas Rathore Yuva Samman 2015 for Outstanding Contribution in Medical Field at Jodhpur and Bharat Jyoti Award 2015 for Academic Excellence by former Election Commissioner of India at Delhi and not the least Outstanding Achievement Award 2015 by Principal Dr. S N Medical College-Jodhpur. With his exceptional organizational skills he has also been Organizing Secretary at USG Guided Regional Anaesthesia Workshop and Workshop on Emergency Surgical Airway and Videolaryngoscopy also Scientific Chairman at National Conference AOA 2018 – Jodhpur.
Dr. Karnawat credits all his success to the support he received from the family, he feels his parents have always been a guiding force behind the path he adopted and more largely for a kind of person he is. His father Sh. Manmohan Chand Karnawat being an educationist truly professes a teacher’s attitude to give even if it means going beyond the boundaries, and mother Smt. Sarla Karnawat, had a very disciplined and pious influence. He, following in their footsteps, therefore has been associated with charities and social work since 25 years where in the medical or any other help required by the needy people is permanently forthcoming against all odds.
Another very valuable inheritance he has got from them is the gift of music and Rakesh Karnawat is a rare combination of medical and musical expertise. He is an ardent musician who loves to play flute and has performed during many stage programs at state and national level. This streak of being versatile and has been transmitted to his children as well, as his son Pranay despite having an engineering degree from BITS, Pilani and working for a financial firm has many stage performances to his credit and also writes pros. His daughter Tanushree is pursuing her law degree from Symbiosis University.
Not to forget the anchor of his life, his better half Dr. Shellu Karnawat, who is a gynecologist and the consultant at Vasundhra Hospital, Jodhpur. Dr. Rakesh Karnawat, acknowledges that the Indian traditional joint family system is undoubtedly the most revered backbone for the society and closer home for his family. He feels the values and the growth which mutual respect and appreciation in the unit can give changes the persons’ perspective of life and builds a more harmonious and tolerant humanity. He is thankful to his parents and his wife for creating the environment for children that have allowed them to grow by leaps and bounds
Great …!!! Superb story of a truly human soul and a dedicated medical professional, always ready to serve a person in need !!! During COVID pandemic period, he was all time busy with his responsibilities as Additional Principal of SM Medical College, doing a lot many activities for the community at that difficult time. He helped a lot many persons selflessly. His qualities, way of working – exceptional managerial skills and dedication to work are few things imparting inspirations to medical students working under him.
