Naveen Mohnot’s fame and diligence has won him and his center plenty of awards and honors like Junior Chamber International Award, Rajasthan Fashion Award Season 3 and Best Center Activity awards
Though, venturing into a new field at a time, when there was the least awareness among the masses, brings in unprecedented opportunities. But in order to tap those opportunities, one has to pass through a tunnel replete with challenges. It is only perseverance, which leads to breaking the threshold and carve an identity for oneself.
Naveen stepped into the field of fashion and interior design education, when talking about fashion designing as a career was rather taboo for the parents largely. But he accepted the challenge, took the reins of Jodhpur franchise of National Institute of Fashion Designing (NIFD) and evolved it into a brand in fashion and interior design training.
A humble start in 2006 with just two enrolments,this institute now known as INIFD today has uncountable success stories. Alumni of his institute have been selected in the world famous fashion events like Lakme, London and New York Fashion Weeks and many are associated with reputed fashion labels and production houses.
Affiliations with top industry icons like Manish Malhotra, Twinkle Khanna and Ashley Rebello and tie ups with London School of Trends, Reliance and IMG Event Management group to name a few, have brought a reputation to the institute leading to a fascinating placement track record.
Born to Kanraj and Bhagyawanti Mohnot in a middle class family in March 1978 in Jodhpur, Naveen had his schooling from different schools of city and completed B. Com. in 1997 from Shri Nakoda Jain Parshwanath College of city.
Given the family condition, he enrolled himself to a computer course parallel to his school education and started earning through petty jobs right from class 10thleveraging his computer knowledge. After completing B. Com., he joined a soft toys company in Delhi and transferred to Mumbai in 6 months’ later considering his performance. His devotion to work there brought him the unprecedented salary hike in the company then.
Married to Vimla in 1999, Naveen returned to Jodhpur next year given the family responsibilities and to support his father, who runs a transport company(Janta Transport) . But an ardent desire of creating his own identity, kept him from joining his father’s business. This desire landed him at the same college; he had passed out from, as a computer faculty and office assistant.
His dedication to work in this new role brought him a distinct recognition. Seeing his hard work, principal of the college, Dr. VK Singhal came up with an advicefor him to have franchisee of a fashion institute NIFD for Jodhpur. It was then owned by a friend of Singhal, who was not interested in continuing with it.
Advice seemed fascinating. But it required finance. With his savings and jewellery of mother and wife mortgaged, he arranged money to buy franchise and jumped to the opportunity in 2006 with blessings of family and well-wishers despite knowing that the institute was not much known and there was barely any awareness around about interior and fashion designing as a career choice.
Continuing with his job as a computer faculty, he along with his younger brother Shripal took the saddle of their new venture with just 2 students and 2 faculties with a piece of advice from his grandfather, father and his brother in law and with the guidance of professor GL Mehta, whom he regard as his mentor.
First challenge before Naveen was to get the fashion and interior designing recognized as a career option and get the career conscious youth drawn to the institute. He began with holding fashion events and shows in the city and apprising youth about career prospects in fashion and interior designing through career exhibitions.
Gradually, his efforts started bringing results. Participation in fashion shows like Marwar Samaaroh, Maru Mahotsava and Mehrangarh fort shot up the popularity of the institute and soon Naveen started to be recognized as a synonym of fashion and interior design in Jodhpur. To match the pace with the growing popularity of the institute, he finally quit his job in 2017 and devoted full time to the institute.
Today, his institute has 180 seats, all occupied not only with local students but students from all across the country and even from abroad. Over a dozen faculties, both permanent and visiting, expert in their respective areas, have been training the students on different aspects of fashion and interior designing. Many of his students have landed with fascinating placement offers and working with renowned fashion brands and film producers, while many have set up their own fashion brands and labels.
Recently, he has come up with another center of Guru kulam fashion by INIFD in Pali with Shripaland Subhashat its helm and gearing up for a new venture, A Film Acting Institute in Jodhpur in association with some renowned film producers and directors.
Father of two sons, Ravi and Naitik, Naveen has also an active involvement in diverse social activities. He is also holding the post of Director of Jodhpur Nagrik Sahkari Bank.
A firm believer of action, Naveen’s life is a pure example that where there is a will there is way, provided you devote yourself with honesty and integrity to your profession and with regard to your elders advices.
