Rajasthan Association Of North America (Rana) and Indian Consulate New York Celebrate Women Empowerment In New India Event At New York

Consulate General of India, New York, and Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA) organized an event on Women Empowerment with Ruma Devi, Recipient of Nari Shakti Puraskar – 2018

Randhir Jaiswal, Consulate General of India, New York welcomed Ruma Devi and all the distinguished guests. This event began with the patriotic song ‘Vande Mataram’ performed by Nidhi Ladda, followed by her performance on Mahisasur Mardini. A dance performance on a popular Rajasthani song “Ghoomar” was given by Riya Dadich and was also joined by Ruma Devi.

During this event Shri Prem Bhandari Ji addressed the audience about “Women Empowerment in New India”, under the able leadership of Shri Narendra Modi Ji. One of the greatest examples for such mission is set by Ms. Ruma Devi who is an Indian social worker, fashion designer, traditional handicraft artist from Barmer, Rajasthan, who couldn’t complete her 8th grade and had to dropout from school due to financial concerns at home, was invited to a talk show to inspire the younger generations at the prestigious Harvard University, USA.

Ruma Devi took an initiative and supported 30,000 needy women from 250 villages in a small district of Rajasthan and has become an inspiration for others. Her contribution led her recognition and support for which she was also awarded the prestigious “Nara Shakti Puraskar 2018”, a highest civilian honor for Women in India.

At instance of Haridas Kotahwala’s, a Chairman of Deepavali function of RANA 2022, that will be celebrated on November 20th 2022, Shri Prem Bhandari ji invited and encouraged Ruma Devi to participate and exhibit the handmade products in this Deepavali function. Prem Bhandari also informed about hosting a Traditional Fashion Show – New York during the event.

A short film of Ruma Devi’s life struggles and hard work was also played during this event to inspire others through her journey. Prem Bhandari said “Ruma Devi had not just given employment, but also a new life to the women in need, making them self-reliant, independent, and confident individuals. He marked that RANA will continue to support Ruma Devi on her mission as she has the potential to uplift not just 30,000 women from 250 villages but also to uplift 30 million (3 crores) such women from the entire Indian nation. Ankur Vaid, the Chairman of (FIA) Federation of Indian Association NY NJ CT NE, also spoke about the inspirational story of Ruma Devi and promised that FIA will also extend their help to support on her mission. He also appreciated and thanked Prem Bhandari ji, who is a conveyor of FIA’s “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” function, for all his support to make this FIA and all the events, a grand success. Mr. Vaid also invited all the attendees to join the parade which will be taking place on 21st August in New York City, USA. Dr. Ravi Murarka, a President American Association of Veterinarians of Indian origin, who came all the way from Philadelphia was felicitated with bouquet by RANA for working day and night for the solution of lumpy skin disease for cows.

An All-India Jain Minority Foundation’s President Lalit Gandhi honored Ruma Devi, Randhir Jaiswal, and Prem Bhandari with shawls. This grand event included honorable guests included Mr. Alok Kumar, a Former President & Bihar’s Foundation Chairman of FIA, Mr. Harish Thakkar, an AIA President, New York Chapter, Neelam Modi, RANA’s office bearer, Mr. Dashrath Duggar, a Former RANA President, Ashok Sanketi, Chandra Prakash Sukhwal, Sharad Kothari, Ravi Jargad, Ravi Murarka, Dulichand Baid, Yatin Doshi, and other dignitaries.
Nidhi and Riya were cited by Consulate General of India, Ranbir Jaiswal. At the end of the event, Deputy Consul General of India, Dr. Varun Jeff gave vote of thanks to all the attendees and guests.
