BS Yadav : A visionary educationist

A visionary educationist, an innovative administrator and the proud recipient of National Award for Teachers, B S Yadav, currently the Director and Principal of Delhi Public School, Jodhpur is a popular figure in the field of education.

Speaking about the changing social dynamicsand behavioral patterns in children hesays,every child has the potential to excel and they do, if we spot, nurture and utilise their best abilities. He believes that no child is poor or bad. His/ her behaviour might not be as per the norms of the society but the child would have learned that from the people around. So if anyone is to be blamed for a child’s inappropriate behavior, it is those people in his habitat. He talks about children being good beings and it is the responsibility of teachers and parents to try and persuade them towards positive inquisitiveness. Emphasizing on the importance of extracurricular and co-curricular activities, he says that these are very important factors responsible for improving the personality of a child which will enable him/her to continue towards the betterment of the society and thus the nation.

Talking about 21 years in DPS Jodhpur, he says “Though my janmbhoomi is UP, which I am very proud of, my karmbhoomi for the last 33 years and countinghas been Rajasthan, which I am equally proud of”.

In recognition of Yadav’s contribution to the field of education, he was conferred the National Award for Teachers in 2005, by the then President of India, Late Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. He has also earned Certificate of Advanced International School Leadership in July 2017 for successfully completing eight advanced components of the “Essential skills for Principal Program” at The Principal Training Centre (PTC) for International School Leadership in Miami USA. Some other awards in his kitty include,‘Marwar Pride Award – 2016’, ‘Bharat VidyaShiromani Award – 2014’, ‘VirDurgadasSamiti Award – 2006’, ‘Vijay Shree Award – 2005’, ‘Radha Krishna International Award – 2004’, ‘VanyaJeevanRatna Award’, ‘Best Citizen of India’ award, and the list goes on.

His family consists of his mother, his wife Ms SangeetaYadav, his sons, Vishal and Vaibhav, and courtesy the sons who brought his two daughters into the family, Aashima and Lavina. Ms SangeetaYadav, currently the Senior Headmistress at DPS Jodhpur, has also been an educationist for over 35 years now. Talking about his wife, he does not shy away from calling her extremely understanding and the biggest pillar of his strength. The elder son, Vishal and his wife Aashima are both a lawyers by profession and reside in Delhi. Vishal is Partner in a reputed law firm and Aashima is a Corporate Legal Consultant with another reputed law firm. The younger son Vaibhav is a Marine Engineer and has recently completed his PGPM from the prestigious Indian School of Business, Mohali, ready to start his journey in the corporate world. Vaibhav’s wife, Lavina is a Quality Assessment Analyst at a reputed IT company in Gurugram.

Yadav is a voracious reader and an ardent writer. He champions teacher motivation, coherent work settings, effective engagement of community, parents and collaborative learning. Apart from articles on education, he has written many articles on Child Psychology, Girl Child education, Instilling Indian Culture & Traditions among School Students, Innovative Approaches in teaching methodology, etc and many articles based on parent child relationship. His personal blog has more than 300 posts on education and other current issues and is followed by hundreds of people.

In his words, “It has been an excellent journey of being a teacher. 38 years of being in company of young minds did not let me feel aging. It is because of these kids that some people in the society know. I owe all this to my students and wish them best of everything in life, always.”
